Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Saint Tropez 104 on Rue Général Allard, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place in one of France’s most expensive resort towns. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries come when your expectations are practically on the floor.

The building itself sits on this quiet residential street that most tourists never find, which is actually perfect because you’re far enough from the madness around the old port but still close enough to walk to Place des Lices in about eight minutes (I timed it). The whole area has this lived-in feel – real Saint-Tropez locals going about their business, not just selfie sticks and designer shopping bags everywhere. What really got me was how the staff seemed genuinely surprised when guests were polite, which tells you they’re not dealing with the usual entitled crowd that floods the peninsula hotels. The woman at check-in – I think her name was Marie – actually gave me insider tips about which beaches to hit early morning before the yacht crowds arrive.

The room was… well, it’s a 3-star, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or those fancy rain showers. But honestly, it was clean, the bed was comfortable enough, and the little balcony (request one facing the courtyard, trust me) catches this amazing morning light that makes you want to have coffee outside even when it’s too early. The whole place has this slightly worn-in charm that feels authentic rather than trying too hard to impress. I mean, the wallpaper probably hasn’t been updated since the 90s, but there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that doesn’t feel like it was designed by a committee of Instagram influencers. Plus – and this is huge for Saint-Tropez – parking is actually manageable in this neighborhood. You’ll probably find street parking within a block or two, which is basically a miracle during summer season.

What really sells this place for me is the location story that most people miss. Rue Général Allard runs parallel to some of the main tourist drags, but it’s where actual residents live and work. There’s a little bakery two streets over that opens at 6 AM and makes these incredible pain au chocolat that disappear by 9. The whole Ponche quarter is right there when you want to explore the postcard-perfect old town, but you can also walk to the newer part of town where locals actually shop for groceries and the restaurants don’t charge €40 for a basic salad. Honestly, for the price point – especially considering this is Saint-Tropez we’re talking about – you’re getting way more value than those flashy places near the harbor that cost three times as much just so you can say you stayed “in the heart of it all.” Sometimes being slightly off the beaten path is exactly what makes a trip memorable.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Saint-Tropez at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak summer season when the city hosts numerous glamorous events and beach parties.

  What could be improved: The apartment is one of the hottest I have ever stayed in. There are no fans in the living or bedroom, and there is a very small aircon vent in the living room which does blow out cool air. On a 31 degree day outside, it was 38 degree's in the bedroom and 35 degrees in the living room after having the aircon on for 24 hours. The external aircon vents are directly outside of the room causing it to be hotter. We had to move out and stay in a new place for the final 2 nights of our 4 night stay in July as it was not possible to stay there. We reached out to owners however were told to buy our own fan.
