Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Sailing Apartment by Halldis, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name sounds a bit corporate, you know? But once you find yourself on Rue du Portalet, just a few steps from where the old port meets the newer developments, it all starts to make sense. This isn’t your typical hotel at all – it’s actually more like borrowing a really well-connected friend’s place in Saint-Tropez, except your friend happens to have impeccable taste and knows exactly what travelers actually need.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Saint-Tropez rather than just visiting it. You’re close enough to hear the gentle clinking of sailboat masts when the mistral picks up (which, if you’ve never experienced it, is this amazing sound that’ll become your favorite thing about mornings there), but far enough from the main port chaos that you won’t have drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 3 AM. I mean, Rue du Portalet itself is one of those streets that locals use as a shortcut – you’ll see them heading to the morning market at Place des Lices with their canvas bags, and you can just follow along like you belong there. The apartment setup means you get a proper kitchen, which is clutch because honestly, eating out for every meal in Saint-Tropez will bankrupt you faster than buying a round of drinks at Club 55.
What really sets this place apart – and I think this is why it’s got that 9.5 rating – is how they’ve managed to nail all the little details that matter. The Wi-Fi actually works (crucial if you’re trying to post those golden hour shots from the port), there’s proper air conditioning for those sweltering July afternoons, and they’ve clearly thought about storage space, which most vacation rentals completely botch. You know what surprised me most? The shower pressure. Sounds silly, but after a day of walking those cobblestone streets or coming back sandy from Pampelonne Beach, you want a shower that actually works. The whole Halldis operation runs pretty smoothly too – check-in was painless, and when I had a question about the best route to avoid traffic getting to Ramatuelle, they actually knew what they were talking about instead of just handing me a generic tourist map. It’s clearly a 4-star setup, but it feels more personal than that. If you’re the type who wants to duck into the local boulangerie for your morning coffee instead of queuing up at some hotel breakfast buffet, and you want to end your day on a terrace with a glass of rosé watching the light change over the Mediterranean – well, this is exactly where you want to be.
To book a hotel in Saint-Tropez during the famous summer yacht season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts celebrities and luxury travelers from around the world.
