Hotel Description
You know what? I almost drove right past Chant des Vagues Saint Tropez VIII the first time – it’s tucked away on this quiet residential street called Chemin de Sainte-Bonne Aventure, which honestly feels more like a neighborhood secret than a tourist zone. The name sounds way fancier than the place actually is, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s one of those 3-star spots that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, and after staying at some overpriced “luxury” places in Saint-Tropez that left me disappointed, I actually appreciated the straightforward approach here.
The location is pretty clever when you think about it – you’re far enough from the madness of the port area (maybe a 10-minute drive to Place des Lices) that you can actually sleep at night, but close enough that you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere. I mean, Saint-Tropez in summer is absolutely bonkers, so having a quiet base where you can retreat after dealing with the crowds and €15 cocktails is worth its weight in gold. The Clos Bonaventure area has this residential feel where you’ll see locals walking their dogs in the morning instead of tourists stumbling around with cameras. Parking was surprisingly manageable too – not something you can say about most places in Saint-Tropez, where finding a spot can literally ruin your day.
The hotel itself has that slightly dated French coastal vibe that some people love and others find a bit tired. I’m somewhere in the middle on it, honestly. The staff seemed genuinely local (always a good sign) and knew their stuff about the area – they pointed me toward this little bakery about five minutes away that I never would have found otherwise. The 7.2 rating makes sense to me; it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does what it promises without any major letdowns. The rooms are clean and functional, though don’t expect Instagram-worthy interiors. What I really liked was how quiet it gets at night – you can hear the cicadas instead of drunk tourists, which in Saint-Tropez feels like a genuine luxury. If you’re the type who needs to be right in the thick of things, this might feel too removed, but if you want to experience Saint-Tropez without the full assault on your senses (and wallet), it’s actually a pretty smart choice. Just don’t expect resort-style amenities – this is more like staying at a well-run local spot that happens to be in one of France’s most famous beach towns.
