Honestly, Casa Tropezina surprised me – and I mean that in the best way possible. When you first walk up to 84 Rue Général Allard, it doesn’t look like much from the street (most Saint-Tropez places don’t, actually), but there’s something immediately welcoming about this little three-star that sets it apart from the flashier spots closer to the port.

The location is what really sold me on this place. You’re tucked away on a quiet residential street, which means you can actually sleep at night – trust me, if you’ve ever stayed near Place des Lices during festival season, you know what I’m talking about. But here’s the thing: you’re still only about a ten-minute walk to the old town, and maybe fifteen to get down to the waterfront where all the superyachts dock. I found myself cutting through the small streets behind Rue Gambetta most mornings, grabbing coffee at that little place on Rue de la Ponche before the crowds hit. The owner, Marie, mentioned that a lot of guests discover these same walking routes – apparently there’s an unspoken tradition of guests leaving little notes about their favorite local spots in the lobby.

What I really appreciated was how unpretentious everything felt. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Saint-Tropez, after all), but they’re thoughtfully done with these lovely Provençal touches – you know, the kind of shutters that actually work and tile floors that stay cool even when it’s blazing outside. The beds are surprisingly comfortable, and honestly, the shower pressure was better than some four-star places I’ve stayed at along the coast. There’s this small courtyard area where you can have breakfast, and in the evenings it becomes this perfect little sanctuary where you can decompress with a glass of rosé – though you’ll want to grab a bottle from the shop on Rue Allard rather than paying hotel prices. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, which isn’t always a given in this town during peak season. I had an issue with my room key one evening (my fault, entirely), and they sorted it out without any of that theatrical sighing you sometimes get at the more expensive places. Sure, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury amenities, but sometimes you just want a clean, comfortable base that doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping in a showroom, you know?

  What could be improved: Entrance. Dirty. No automatic light and hands full of packages had to use phone light to climb up two floors on unsafe and cracked stairs. Wet towels. Only 2 small pillows and no more given despite asking. Host very rude and told us it was our ‘fault’ we complained about no lights as we did not then on switch (which we didn’t see in the pitch dark). Terrible experience and wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Host offered to return money but didn’t hear back once we left.
